UConn Vergnano Institute for Inclusion Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship Application

Scholarship Information

The application window is June 1-July 15, 2024

You will be notified of your award 1-3 days BEFORE the UConn Fee Bill is due on August 1

By applying to the UConn Vergnano Institute for Inclusion Undergraduate Engineering Scholarship Application, you will be considered for multiple funds depending on your eligibility as determined by the scholarship fund donors.

This is application is only for incoming first year students OR rising second year students. 

The scholarship funds details are:

Belimo Engineering Scholars Program

This funding will be awarded to UConn Engineering rising second-year students majoring in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, who are permanent in-state residents of Connecticut, have financial need, and who:

(1) have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic disadvantage; or

(2) are members of groups that are underrepresented at UConn College of Engineering; and

(3) are in good academic standing after completing one year of college

The students selected for this scholarship will receive a $10,000 award PER YEAR (half each semester), if they remain in the UConn College of Engineering, and in good academic standing during their remaining three undergraduate years.

This also comes with an opportunity for an internship, and academic year mentoring and program.

Cigna Scholars Program

This funding will be awarded to UConn Engineering first-year students majoring in Computer Science and/or Computer Science and Engineering, who have financial need and who:

(1) have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage; or

(2) are members of groups that are underrepresented at College of Engineering; or

(3) have experience living or working in diverse environments.

The students selected for this scholarship will receive a $10,000 award PER YEAR (half each semester) for all four years, if they remain in the UConn College of Engineering, and in good academic standing.

This also comes with an opportunity for an internship, and academic year mentoring and programming.

Entegris Scholars Program

This funding will be awarded to UConn Engineering rising second-year students majoring in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, who are permanent in-state residents of Connecticut, have financial need, and who:

(1) have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic disadvantage; or

(2) are members of groups that are underrepresented at UConn College of Engineering; and

(3) are in good academic standing after completing one year of college; and

(4) demonstrate strong leadership or extracurricular involvement

The students selected for this scholarship will receive a $25,000 award PER YEAR (half each semester) for the remaining 3 years, if they remain in the UConn College of Engineering, and in good academic standing.

Pratt and Whitney Scholars Program

This funding will be awarded to UConn Engineering first-year students majoring in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Multidisciplinary Engineering, or similar relevant fields, who have financial need and who:

(1) have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage; or

(2) are members of groups that are underrepresented at College of Engineering; or

(3) have experience living or working in diverse environments.

This award also includes a summer internship opportunity at Pratt & Whitney after the sophomore year; a senior design project sponsored by Pratt & Whitney; and professional development and mentorship opportunities. Provided the selected students continue as UConn College of Engineering undergraduate students in good academic standing, each will receive a $10,000 award PER YEAR (half each semester) for all four years.

BRIDGE Scholarships and Fellowships

Students participating in the BRIDGE program in the Vergnano Institute for Inclusion have access to a pool of over $75,000 of funding for the academic year. Only students participating in the BRIDGE program this summer are eligible for these awards.

Application Preview

To apply you will answer several questions about your personal background, academic history, leadership and involvement, and future plans. You will also be asked about your FAFSA SAI, and what your unmet need is for financial aid.

You may be asked to write the following short essays (<250 words):
1) Describe any socioeconomic or educational disadvantages that you have faced, and how you have overcome them

2) Describe your experience living or working in diverse environments

You will be asked to write the following short essays:

1) Why did you choose your major (<100 words)

2) Describe your leadership or entrepreneurial experience (<250 words)

You will be asked to upload PDFs of the following:

1) Your resume (2 page max)

2) Your personal statement (500 words max)
