Volunteer Run of Show 2024

Friday February 23, 2024 

5:00 – 6:00 PM VII Logistics Team will load the box truck 

- 21 buzzer kits for CT 

- 15 buzzer kits for NE 

- 3-5 back up kits 

- Snack boxes (1 box for each room; 36 boxes plus 4 back up) 

- 1 printer and extra paper 

- Extra scoresheets 

- 3 sets of printed questions for all rounds 

- Extra power strips & extension cords 

 

 

6:00 – 8:00 PM VII Logistics Team & Science Bowl Coordinators & Runners will: 

          - Bring everything to SHH 101 

  • Set up Science Bowl Command Central in MONT 314 
  • Set up food tables and help desk tables and signage 
  • Signs for inside the building 

 

Saturday February 24, 2024 

7:30 – 7:55 AM Optional Breakfast in SHH 101 

 

7:55 – 8:10 AM Volunteer Sign In, Morning Meeting 

- Disperse to Game Rooms or Assigned Locations 

 

8:15 – 8:30 AM Set up Game Rooms 

- Communicate in Discord any missing components, people

8:30 – 8:45 AM Testing  

- Ensure all equipment is functional 

- Ensure communicators have access to correct spreadsheets 

- Ensure scoresheet is displayed on Doc Cam/Projector 

 

8:45 – 9:00 AM Log in to livestream 

- Runners and Command Central go to Welcome Rooms to assist transitions and movement of teams 

 

9:00 – 9:15 AM Watch Opening Ceremony 

 

9:15 – 9:40 AM Prepare for team arrivals 

- Ensure everyone has a seat 

- Ensure everyone has scrap paper, pencils, and functioning equipment

  • Introduce Room Leaders (all volunteers): Name, Pronouns Major, Year, What you hope to do with your major one day (can edit how you’d like), What your role is for science bowl today
  • Recap UConn House Rules 
    • 7 seconds for Toss Ups 
    • Bonus Question: Captain must buzz in to answer 
    • No in/out after game starts 
    • Wait in room after game until dismissed

 

9:45 – 12:15 PM Round Robin Games 

- After each game, help teams see where they are going next 

Round robin games will continue until ~1:00 PM

12:15 – 1:30 PM* Lunch 

- Volunteer lunch is in same location as everyone else.  

  • Feel free to grab lunch closest at location closest to you 
  •  Please help make sure everyone’s trash goes in bins.  
  • If full, kindly help take that bag out and replace with a new bag 

 

1:00 – 1:30 PM* Optional Viewing/Participating in College 101 Panel in SCHN 151

1:30 – 1:45 PM Return to rooms, ensure everything is ready, clean and still works 

 

1:45 – 2:00 PM Welcome teams into your room 

- Ensure they are the correct teams in your room 

 

2:00 – 5:30 PM Afternoon Rounds 

- After each game, help teams see where they are going next 

 

~3:30 PM In between games, you can hand out snacks  

 

If you notice your room has no more teams coming (see bracket): 

  • please pack up your room
  • clean up the space
  • bring boxes to outside SHH 101 
  • After this you are free to go, or spectate games, or be a floater 

 

5:30 PM Championship Matches 

anyone still here, please go to SCHN 151 (CT) or SHH 101 (NE) to cheer on the championships 

 

 

6:00 PM Awards 

anyone still here, please go to SCHN 151 (CT) to cheer 

 

6:30 – 7:00 PM Friendly Match: CT vs NE Winner

7:00 – 7:30 PM Volunteer Dinner in SHH 101 

 

7:30 - 8:30 PM Final building walk through and clean up, loading box truck, 

- trash bags should be brought to nearby (library) dumpsters

Action Items:  

  • If you cannot make it (full or partial day), please let us know ASAP 
  • Verify your name is on the spreadsheet, and with people you expect it to be (if grouped) 
  • Verify your “personal itinerary” 
    • Do you have a morning role? 
    • What time will your last game be? 
  • Verify you are on the discord, and in the correct role AND channels 
  • Review rules and role requirements 
  • Be prepared for a second role in your room if needed
