About the Program
DRIVES - Diversity in Research, Innovation, and Vision towards Equity in STEM. This program aims to support incoming graduate students that have been historically excluded, underrepresented, or underserved in STEM.
The goals of this program are:

From Path to PhD to Hidden Curriculum: Developing incoming students to be confident scholar-leaders | Creating a much-needed interdisciplinary community that are often “the only” in their respective disciplines | Connecting students with mentors at UConn and beyond that care about the whole human |
Students who participate in the 2024 program will:
- $500 stipend for participation
- $250 disbursed by August 1
- $250 after August 16th's program completion
- Participate in 1 week of programming on the Storrs campus
- Have continued mentoring, support, and workshops during the academic year(s)

Continued Academic Year Support DRIVES Fellows:
- Enrolled in GRAD 5450 1 credit course in first semester (Fall 2024)
- Enrolled in GRAD 5410 1 credit course Scientific Comm Class in third semester
- At minimum quarterly one-on-one check ins for at least 3 years
- One-on-one guidance for national fellowship applications (i.e. GEM, NSF)
- One-on-one guidance for graduate certificate in college instruction
- Cohort meetings 3-6x per year
- Peer Mentoring from Current graduate students
- Financial Support and Community in Equity Focused Orgs (Grad SWE, Grad SHPE, Grad NSBE) to attend conferences
- Priority for John Lof Leadership Academy after 1st year
- Opportunity for future summer funding
This program welcomes all advocates of expanding access to STEM fields to everyone interested!
