Women in Tech Scholarship

The “Empowering Women in Tech” Essay Scholarship, sponsored by Designli, awards $3,000 to a female student in the United States pursuing a degree related to technology or business. Applicants should submit a 1,000-word essay discussing the importance of women leaders and entrepreneurs in the technology industry. Designli is excited to invest in young women, regardless of their cultural, economic, or educational backgrounds.

Young Hispanic Leader Scholarship

Barrios Virgüez’s Young Hispanic Leader Scholarship offers $2,500 in financial assistance to students anticipating or returning to college. This scholarship celebrates students’ successful development of leadership skills alongside their academic success. Students submitting their scholarship applications for consideration are encouraged to elaborate on the challenges that their time in a leadership position foisted upon them. Barrios Virgüez wants to uphold the efforts of a student who had their abilities, perspective, and/or perseverance challenged while in the service of others.

Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP)

“The Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) is a fully paid summer internship that provides undergraduates with training and mentoring in the principles underlying the conduct of research and prepares them to pursue competitive applications to PhD or MD-PhD programs.

Since 1992, the Leadership Alliance has encouraged students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, mathematics, engineering, psychology, the social sciences and humanities to pursue research careers in the academic, public and private sectors.

Leadership Opportunity - Medical Brigade to Ghana

Medical Brigade to Ghana is an awesome leadership & Volunteer opportunity through UConn Global Brigades.

The mission of GB is to empower communities through a holistic approach to the student movement and full-time local clinics in an effort to promote self-sustainability and inequality reduction. This May, UConn students have the opportunity to attend a Medical Brigade in Ghana, where they will host medical clinics for community members and provide healthcare education/resources. Multiply Your Options (MYO) Volunteer (run by VII)

MYO is one of several programs utilized at the University of Connecticut to combat the lack of exposure to professional female role models in the areas of science, mathematics, engineering and technology. Multiply Your Options (MYO) is a one-day conference for middle school girls designed to expose them to female role models in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. The MYO concept can be used for multiple constituencies in order to address the lack of role models, gross under-representation and lack of diversity in certain career clusters (such as engineering with a female representation of only 8%).

Engineering Your Future (EYF) Volunteer (run by VII)

Engineering Your Future (EYF) is a one-day conference designed for 8th-grade boys from underrepresented backgrounds. Our purpose in hosting this conference is to introduce them to role models that look like them in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Our goal is to host students from populations that are underrepresented in engineering in hopes of igniting a flame to inspire these students to consider STEM fields and their overall potential.

Tutor for The Education Project

Due to COVID-19, students and teachers have transitioned to online learning, which may be challenging for many students— particularly those with limited access to additional resources. To address this need, we, in partnership with Humanity First USA, have launched The Education Project as a program to connect volunteer college students and professionals as tutors and mentors for elementary, middle, and high school students. Through volunteer-driven, virtual, 1-on-1 tutoring, we can help ease the academic burden created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ever since the summer, we have now served over 400 students and are in the process of forming 5-6 school partnerships in areas with demonstrated need. Our project is launched under Humanity First USA, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit humanitarian organization.

This project is currently ongoing and our goal is to continue to serve communities with greater educational needs.
