Volunteer Run of Show 2024

Friday February 21, 2025

5:00 – 6:00 PM

VII Logistics Team will load the box truck

  • 21 buzzer kits for CT
  • 15 buzzer kits for NE
  • 3-5 back up kits
  • Snack boxes (1 box for each room; 36 boxes plus 4 back up) 
  • 1 printer and extra paper 
  • Extra scoresheets
  • 3 sets of printed questions for all rounds 
  • Extra power strips & extension cords
6:00 – 8:00 PM

VII Logistics Team & Science Bowl Coordinators & Runners will:

  • Bring everything to SHH 101
  • Set up Science Bowl Command Central in MONT 314 
  • Set up food tables and help desk tables and signage 
  • Signs for inside the building

Morning Meeting in SHH 101

  • Important Recap, then Disperse to Game Rooms or Assigned Locations
8:15 – 8:30 AM

Set up Game Rooms

  • Be sure to put out blank scrap paper for each player
  • Tape down any wires or trip hazards if possible
  • Communicate in Discord any missing components, people
8:30 – 8:45 AM

Testing

  • Ensure all equipment is functional
  • Ensure communicators have access to correct spreadsheets
  • Ensure scoresheet is displayed on Doc Cam/Projector
8:45 – 9:00 AM

Log in to livestream

9:00 – 9:20 AM

Watch Opening Ceremony

Runners go to ITE C-80 and be prepared to escort folks from ITE to SHH in CT bracket

9:20– 9:40 AM

Prepare for team arrivals

  • You can have music (no swears) playing if you'd like as people walk in
  • Ensure everyone has a seat 
  • Ensure everyone has scrap paper, pencils, and functioning equipment
  • Introduce Room Leaders (all volunteers): Name, Pronouns Major, Year, What you hope to do with your major one day (can edit how you’d like), What your role is for science bowl today
  • Recap UConn House Rules
    • 7 seconds for Toss Ups 
    • Bonus Question: Captain must buzz in to answer 
    • No in/out after game starts 
    • Wait in room after game until dismissed
    • No cheering until end of game
    • No phones
9:45 – 12:15 PM

Round Robin Games

  • After each game, help teams see where they are going next
    • You can look at the Round Robin Score Sheet OR Science Bowl Room Locations Sheet (all on the guest page below)

11:30 AM Runners set up tables for lunch

Check to see if your assigned room is hosting a tiebreaker round at 1 PM

Lunch

  • Volunteer lunch is in ITE C-80
    • You can grab your food then eat anywhere
  • Please help make sure everyone’s trash goes in bins.  
  • If full, kindly help take that bag out and replace with a new bag 
1:00 – 1:30 PM

Optional Viewing/Participating in College 101 Panel in ITE C-80

Tiebreaker Rounds if Needed

  • This is new and will require certain rooms to host
  • If your room is hosting, try to be there at least 5 minutes before came time
1:30 – 1:45 PM

Return to rooms, ensure everything is read, clean and still works

1:45 – 2:00 PM

Welcome teams into your room

  • Ensure they are the correct teams in your room
2:00 – 5:30 PM
