Explore Engineering is a two week residential summer program designed to introduce rising high school students to various engineering majors.
We do this through hands-on activities led by current undergraduate engineering students, and presentations led by UConn faculty.
The Grand Challenge Project
In our Grand Challenge Project, students deep-dive in a two-week multidisciplinary project. These are hands on projects that students have time to work on every weekday in the camp. Total project time: 21 hours!
This year’s Grand Challenges themes include ‘Adapting our Anatomy”, “Enhancing our Ecosystems”, “Manufacturing our Machines”, and “Shaping our Seas”.
Major Exploration
First, professors and industry professionals present about their majors/disciplines to students, providing insight into different engineering fields. Then, students participate in hands-on activities curated by counselors, reinforcing concepts they’ve just learned. 10 hours of major exploration!
Designed to be beginner-friendly, participants will develop hands-on skills such as soldering, a little coding (C++), design using CAD/ SolidWorks, 3D printing, and more.
Who's Eligible?
- Any high school (including home school) student who will be entering 9th - 11th grade in Fall 2025.
- Rising seniors are welcome, though you may find our camp may not be challenging enough for you
- Neurodivergent students are welcome, we are trained to meet your needs.
- As housing is provided, out of state students are welcome. Airport transportation can be arranged.
